About Us: TutorGigs is an EdTech startup that provides culturally resonant and accessible online Tutoring and Analytics for K-12 schools across the nation. We primarily encourage college students, current and retired teachers, and other passionate educators or advocates of student success to apply as fully online K-12 Tutors.
TutorGigs supports all students, however, we specifically focus on supporting K-12 students in economically disadvantaged or traditionally underserved populations, and communities of color. Many of these students speak minimal English or are trying to learn as a second language and all come from communities and cultures that lack the necessary resources to thrive academically.
In particular, we are looking for Special Education certified Teachers to apply as online K-12 Tutors who can help us engage our young scholars in Special Education who especially need accommodations and specific people who understand their limitations and can enable them to thrive academically and professionally. We provide tutoring and intervention services for Math (incl. Algebra 1 & 2), English Reading & Writing, English as Second Language, U.S. History, Biology, Cultural Education and Empowerment, and more to come!
As an online/remote K-12 Tutor, you will engage with closed sessions of 3-5 students in a virtual group setting controlled by you and with support by a TutorGigs representative. You will be given educational materials and a curriculum guide to follow for your session engagement with scholars. Though we provide the curriculum and learning materials, it will be your responsibility as the tutor to fulfill some key requirements:
- Follow the Gradual Release framework of education (I Do -> We Do -> You Do)
- Support school district faculty to design and implement Individualized Educational Plans (IEP’s) structured around the unique needs and accommodations for each student group.
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance and background that is conducive for learning.
- Directly engage with each scholar by name, holding them responsible and at the forefront of their overcoming educational challenges.
- Enhance the learning experience of your scholars by adding your own personalization to encourage them to participate in the lesson and have fun learning something new.
- Be prepared for technical difficulties or sessions to not go as planned. Also have technical capabilities to navigate and utilize the tools at your disposal, such as removing interactive privileges from disruptive scholars.
The most important part of being a SPED Tutor with TutorGigs is being a positive role model for our young K-12 scholars to look up to and gain a sense of inspiration and dedication to academic excellence, community contribution, and self-growth and realizing their own potential. We want our scholars to grow up with real college and workforce preparedness and want to seek out high-income careers to inspire other members of their communities to not settle and reach for heights beyond their imagination!
