Part-Time Internships, Part-Time Jobs Expires April 2, 2023

We are seeking a highly innovative teacher/tutor excited about applying project-based learning as the main educator for a highly gifted 7 year-old at a family’s home in San Rafael. Most of the sessions will be one-on-one, but when things start to open up again, the family may invite other children to participate in class a couple times a week. The seven year old has a 4 year old sister who may participate in some lessons.

We are looking for a teacher who is excited about designing a child’s education, drawing from existing curriculum and developing new, innovative, project-based learning curriculum

This position is year-round and we hope to start as soon as possible.

Please apply here:

https://modulolearning.typeform.com/to/gj5Tojy3

Details:

The position will be around 15-25 hours a week. (3-4 hours a day, 3-5 days a week + time developing curriculum), but it is also flexible. The teacher will also be paid for time spent developing curriculum outside of lessons in collaboration with the family and our team.

We are open to a wide variety of candidates, but these are the basic skills we require.

Interpersonal/Emotional

-Warm and loving

-Strong communication skills (such as appreciative inquiry or child-centered communication)

-Has strong self-management skills (tools and skills around working with their own emotions/triggers, etc.)

-Holds a philosophy around discipline and behavior aligned with ours. From Wild Roots, “challenging behavior is either 1) developmentally appropriate (aka tantrums for preschoolers) or 2) expression of an unmet need from the child.” Responses look at meeting the unmet need.

-Comfort with iterative and entrepreneurial processes, and with working without a ton of structure from a boss, set of school guidelines, etc.

Intellectual/Pedagogical

-Passionate about learning

-Comfortable both 1) teaching about subjects beloved by the teacher – and sharing that love with kids and 2) shaping curriculum around kids’ interests.

-Interest in alternative education

-Comfort with/experience with:

– project-based and experiential learning

– customizing curriculum for the individual child

– children doing work at different grade levels than is typical for their age, etc.

– facilitating mixed age educational experiences

-Prioritizes teaching / nurturing / preserving: 1) creativity 2) critical thinking 3) collaboration 4) kindness/love/ through their teaching, and has a viewpoint about what teaches/nurtures those capacities.

Please apply here:

Teachers must be vaccinated. All children entering the program will also be vaccinated.
