Camp Sunshine at Christmount is a residential camp for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, or I/DD. We offer extensive staff training in providing these services and have the pleasure of serving some unique people over the course of a summer.
Our staff are typically college students who are pursuing careers in disciplines that serve special needs populations. The experience we offer to these students is unparalleled in providing training experience for anyone interested in serving clients with I/DD.
Our clients come for one week at a time, and we typically have a new set of clients each week. Counselors are responsible for assisting campers in participating in our recreation activities and in helping to facilitate planned volunteer opportunities, on and off campus.
Campers sleep in separate quarters with “night-duty” staff. This means that most counselors have evenings off. The night-duty staff are rotated throughout each week, and each counselor pulls at least one or two days of night-duty per week.
Our staff compensation includes room and board in addition to a weekly stipend of $250, paid on the 15th and 30th of each month.
For the right candidate, this position offers an opportunity to explore what it means to support adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities while offering a chance for tremendous personal and professional growth. I was a counselor here when I was in college and it changed my life.
