Latin America Debt Capital Markets

The Debt Capital Markets – Latin America team focuses on all aspects of bond transactions including origination, structuring, documentation, marketing and placement across all industries and all currencies for the entire Latin American region. The team particularly focuses on Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Colombia.

Latin America Project Finance

SMBC has significant expertise in advising, structuring, arranging, underwriting and distributing project & structured finance loans and project bonds on a global scale. Along with other departments within SMBC and SMBC Nikko, we provide a variety of financing solutions for large scale infrastructure projects including conventional and renewable power plants, transmission lines, mining, oil and gas facilities, toll roads, ports, airports, bridges, data centers, fiber optic, and hospitals across Latin America. Our typical products are structuring of project finance, financial advisory to project developers, long / short term loan to project, large scale underwriting of the loans, bond (144A, US private placement) arrangement, Export Credit Agency financing and M&A.

Latin America Corporate Finance

The Latin America Corporate Finance Group (LADA-CF) is responsible for structuring, executing and monitoring corporate finance transactions in Latin America. LADA-CF covers clients in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. The team is divided into three sector verticals: Natural Resources, Power & Utilities and Diversified Industries. Each vertical leverages its industry knowledge across the entire region. LADA-CF regularly collaborates with other teams across SMBC and SMBC Nikko, including Global Trade Finance, Loan Capital Markets, Debt Capital Markets, Investment Banking and US Private Placements.

Latin America Loan Capital Markets

The Loan Capital Markets (LCM) Department is responsible for the structuring, underwriting, execution and distribution of syndicated loan transactions across all industry and origination groups at SMBC. LCM professionals work with and advise the front office marketing (origination) units in order to successfully pitch corporate and financial sponsor clients in a combined effort to win lead-mandates for syndicated loan facilities. Proposals to prospective clients usually involve coordination and partnership with other SMBC and Nikko (our Securities unit) product groups (Debt Capital Markets, FX, Derivatives Marketing and so on) in order to provide comprehensive, multiproduct financing solutions to our clients. Once a lead mandate for a syndicated loan is received, the LCM team is responsible for execution and distribution of loans to both banks and institutional investors. Our Latin America vertical within the LCM group focuses on executing project and corporate finance transactions throughout the region, especially in countries where SMBC has a presence such as Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Peru.
